Retaining Wall Construction

A retaining wall does two things: it holds back earth, and it creates usable space where there was none. If your yard slopes sharply, if your garden beds wash out every spring, or if you want to carve out level terraces for a patio or garden, a retaining wall is the answer. We design and build retaining walls across the Greater Toronto Area using natural stone, interlocking block, and timber.

Ontario is hard on retaining walls. The freeze-thaw cycle heaves soil and puts enormous pressure on any structure in the ground. That is why we build every wall with proper drainage behind it — gravel backfill, weeping tile, and filter fabric to let water escape instead of building up pressure. The footing goes below the frost line, and the base is compacted properly. These are not shortcuts you can see, but they are the difference between a wall that lasts 30 years and one that leans after two winters.

We work with homeowners to choose the right material for the job. Armour stone and natural limestone walls have a timeless look and incredible durability. Interlocking block systems are engineered for structural walls and come in a range of styles. Timber walls work well for garden terracing and lower-height applications. Every project starts with a site visit, and we handle permits when they are required.
